This Cookie Policy explains how etherealplaces.com uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device so it can recognise you on your next page view or visit. Some cookies are set by us (first-party cookies) and some by services we use that run in your browser (third-party cookies). Similar technologies include pixels, local storage and device identifiers; we refer to all of them as “cookies” here.
Why we use them
Strictly necessary
These make the Site work. They remember your cookie choices, keep the Site secure and, if you leave a comment, remember your name and email so you do not have to type them again. They cannot be switched off, but you can clear them in your browser at any time.
Performance and analytics
These tell us, in aggregate, which pages people read, how they arrived, how long they stay and whether the Site is fast or slow. We use this to decide what to write and to fix problems. Tools in this category may include Google Analytics and the Pinterest Tag. The information is pseudonymous and we do not use it to identify individuals.
Advertising and affiliate
If we display advertising, advertising networks set cookies to show relevant ads, limit how often you see the same one and measure results. When you click an affiliate link, the partner sets a cookie so that a later booking can be credited to this Site. These cookies are set by the partners, not by us.
Embedded content
Embedded Pinterest pins, YouTube videos, Instagram posts and Google Maps may set cookies from those services as if you had visited them directly.
Your choices
- Where the law requires it, you will see a cookie banner on your first visit and can accept or reject non-essential cookies. Wherever a banner is in use, you can change your mind at any time through the cookie settings link in the footer.
- Every modern browser lets you view, block and delete cookies. Blocking all cookies may stop some features of the Site from working. Browser help pages for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge explain how.
- You can opt out of Google Analytics with the opt-out browser add-on, and out of interest-based advertising through the Digital Advertising Alliance or Your Online Choices.
How long cookies last
Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay until they expire or you delete them; expiry ranges from a few hours to two years depending on the cookie. Our cookie banner, where shown, lists the specific cookies in use and their lifetimes.
Changes
We will update this policy when the cookies we use change. The effective date at the top shows the latest revision.
